Calculate my FidyaCalculate Your Fidya
Only count fasts you are permanently unable to make up (see “Who owes Fidya” below).
This won’t change the total — it’s recorded on your summary for your own or your scholar’s reference.
Rate = the local cost of feeding one person for a day. Defaults are reference figures from Islamic relief organisations — adjust to your local cost of a full meal.
Total Fidya Due
$300.00 for 30 days
What Is a Fidya Calculator?
A Fidya calculator is a simple tool that turns two numbers — how many fasts you missed and the local cost of feeding one person for a day — into the total charitable payment (Fidya) you owe. Fidya is due when a Muslim is permanently unable to fast during Ramadan, for example because of chronic illness, advanced old age, or pregnancy where the fast cannot ever be safely made up later, and stands in for feeding a person in need for each day missed.
This Fidya calculator does the multiplication for you — missed days × your daily rate — and also shows the rough weight of staple food (around 1.6 kg per day) that the payment is meant to represent, so you can see the calculation from both the monetary and the food-based angle before you give.
How This Fidya Calculator Works
- Enter your missed fasts. Count only the days you are permanently unable to fast or make up later.
- Choose your reason. This is recorded on your summary only — it doesn’t change the maths, but it’s useful if you consult a scholar afterwards.
- Set your currency and daily rate. Defaults are reference figures; edit the rate to match a real meal’s cost where you live.
- Read your total. The Fidya calculator multiplies days by rate instantly and shows the food-weight equivalent alongside it.
- Copy, print, or download your summary to keep a record of what you’ve calculated and paid.
What Should a Fidya Calculation Include?
- An accurate count of missed fasting days
- Confirmation the reason is permanent, not temporary
- A realistic local daily rate, not a guessed figure
- A record of the total and how it was reached
- Clarity on whether food or its cash value is being given
- A note of who received the payment, for your own records
Worked Example
Suppose you missed 12 fasts due to a chronic illness and your local Fidya rate is $10 per day. Here’s how the Fidya calculator breaks it down:
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Missed fasting days | 12 |
| Rate per day | $10.00 |
| Total Fidya due | $120.00 |
| Staple food equivalent (≈1.6 kg/day) | 19.2 kg |
Who Owes Fidya?
Chronic or terminal illness
A doctor has confirmed the condition will not improve enough to allow fasting, now or later.
Old age
Frailty makes fasting genuinely harmful, with no expectation of regaining the ability to fast.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Only when a fast is missed repeatedly across years and can never realistically be made up — most pregnancies call for Qada, not Fidya.
Not applicable: temporary illness or travel
These fasts should be made up later (Qada) rather than paid as Fidya — use this calculator only once make-up is genuinely impossible.
Best Practices When Using a Fidya Calculator
Treat the figure a Fidya calculator gives you as a starting point, not a final ruling — daily rates genuinely vary between countries and organisations. Islamic Relief’s current Fidya guidance is a useful reference point for a defensible per-day rate if you’re unsure what to enter.
Before paying, confirm with a knowledgeable local scholar that your situation genuinely qualifies for Fidya rather than Qada (make-up fasting), since the two are easy to confuse and carry different obligations.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Paying Fidya for temporary reasons. Short-term illness or travel calls for Qada (making up the fast), not Fidya.
- Guessing the daily rate. Using a made-up figure instead of a real local meal cost under- or over-pays what’s owed.
- Forgetting Fidya and Qada can both apply. Some situations require making up the fast and paying Fidya for the delay — check with a scholar if unsure.
- Losing track of days. Not recording each missed fast as it happens makes the final count unreliable months later.
Fidya Calculator FAQ
How accurate is this Fidya calculator?
The Fidya calculator itself does simple, exact multiplication of your missed days and your chosen daily rate. The accuracy of the result depends entirely on the rate you enter — use a figure that reflects a real meal’s cost where you live for the most reliable total.
What is the difference between Fidya and Kaffarah?
Fidya is paid when someone is permanently unable to fast for a valid reason, such as chronic illness or old age. Kaffarah applies when a fast is deliberately broken without a valid reason, and is a heavier obligation — typically feeding many more people or fasting 60 consecutive days.
Can I pay Fidya in food instead of money?
Yes. Fidya can be given as an actual meal or roughly 1.6 kg of staple food per missed day, or as its cash equivalent. This Fidya calculator shows both the monetary total and the approximate food weight so you can choose either method.
Do I still need to make up the missed fasts?
It depends on your situation. If the inability to fast is genuinely permanent, Fidya replaces the fast entirely. If it’s temporary, you owe Qada (making up the days) instead of, or alongside, Fidya — a local scholar can clarify which applies to you.
Is this Fidya calculator connected to an AI service?
No. It runs a fixed, local calculation (days × rate) entirely in your browser using ordinary JavaScript — nothing is sent to an external AI or server. A more advanced version could connect to a secure backend in future, but today’s version is simple and fully offline.
What Fidya rate should I use?
Use the realistic cost of a full day’s food for one person in your area. The defaults in this Fidya calculator are reference figures published by Islamic relief organisations — adjust the rate field to match local prices if they differ.
